Hooping makes me happy, and perhaps if I did it more, it would make me fit. But mostly it brings me joy.

Having Fun With Hoops
I know I haven't posted in awhile. About a year ago, we moved to Lucerne Valley, CA, which is in the Mojave Desert. So I'm still dealing with culture shock, having dirt for a yard, and having a real winter and frying hot summer. So as you might imagine I haven't done much hooping. But I'm determined to make the most of the pleasant autumn weather and hoop as much as I can.
You can laugh if you want to, but at least I'm not sitting on the couch. Now that it's not 105 degrees out and I figured out there is room to hoop on the porch and not in the dirt and gravel, I'll be able to practice a lot more.

Hello Winter
Yesterday I got to do a little hooping for the winter solstice. It was sunny, even for being the shortest day of the year. I had to baby my sore arm, but I think it's good to work with my arm as much as I can. I haven't hooped enough to lose weight, which is too bad. Maybe next year.

Hooping in August
Since I knew 3 days of house sitting might be tedious, I took my hula hoop. And boy was I sore the next morning.

Event June 19 Hooping
On June 19, 2010 at El Dorado Park there is an event that combines World Juggling Day and Knit in Public Day. It's at an archery range. So I'm going to take my hoops, juggling equipment, archery gear and knitting supplies. There is a small fee to drive into the park. I think it's $7.00. Bring something to share at the potluck as there are no food booths. We are on our own. If you do not live near Long Beach, CA you can check the IJA website for other World Juggling Day events near you.

Making Time For Hooping
Ever try to squeeze in some hooping and there just aren't enough hours in the day? Well, I have one of those clothes dryers that never quite gets everything dry. So then I have to put the timer back on for 15 or 20 minutes and wait out in the garage. But today I grabbed my hoop hanging nearby and got a good solid 20 minutes of hooping in. I felt better the rest of the day for having done it.
And there is always this big black woman that drives by and scowls at us. But when she saw me hooping today she actually smiled. A great big Cheshire cat ear to ear smile. Rock on.

Hoopers in SLO
I was visiting Mitchel Park in San Luis Obispo CA when 2 hoopers showed up. I grabbed a few photos. I was depressed that I didn't have my hoop with me. I came by train and had to limit what I brought to what I could carry by myself. If only I had a collapsible hoop. I asked the hoopers if they had regular meetings or if I could come back the next day with a hoop and she said they more or less just show up on a whim. Oh well. It was kind of demoralizing when I walked up to say hello and a little girl there said, "Are you their mother."
Also, I was by the Monday club and saw a woman carrying about 20 hoops into the building. Hers was the only car in the parking lot so maybe she was having a rehearsal or preparing for a class later that night.
The last time I was at a Monday club event was for a belly dancing workshop about 25 years ago. Time flies.

Safire classes
I'm home with a cold so no hooping for me today. But I'm watching videos to keep my motivation up.
Spring will be here soon and many more happy hooping adventures I hope. Now hop to it and get hooping.

Chest Hooping
After watching this and other youtube videos on chest hooping I had to give it a go, in spite of the fact it was still wet outside from yesterdays storm. I have a feeling that chest hooping is a lot easier to learn when you are an A cup. Not so easy when you are DD. Anyway, I also did some neck hooping and felt some of the phlegm that's been giving me headaches breaking up. So maybe hooping is good for that too. Enjoy the video and good luck with your chest hooping.

hooping circus style
I like this style a lot better than the goofier style everyone else is doing now.
Hand hooping video
I saw this late last night and tried it out first thing this morning. Then I remembered I'm supposed to be taking it easy on my hands since I hurt them last weekend carving wood. Oopsy.

Still Hooping
I'm still having fun with my hoop. The heatwave has forced me to hoop either early in the day or late. When I lose motivation I just go watch some hooping vids on line and that inspires me to try try again. I can do each move longer now but I still haven't transitioned in being able to hoop non-stop for ten or twenty minutes. I'd really like to hoop non-stop for an hour or more, but I can't see that happening anytime soon.
After watching the hoop song video below I think I want to make a corset and petticoat hooping outfit. Or maybe a Steampunk outfit or something. Something colorful I can enjoy hooping in to get the full experience. People are amazed when I told them I made my own hoops. A fencer wanted to try it and she has an amazing figure and had a great time hooping before fencing practice. She said the male fighters should do hooping because they are stiff in the hips and it helps loosen up all your joints. I couldn't agree more. It is a way to keep your flexibility and build coordination. Great for waist, hips, thighs. Those hard to work on areas like inner thighs and glutes. But I also get sore muscles in my neck and shoulders so I know those areas are getting a work-out too. If I take a week off I feel rusty and awkward so I really have to keep up. And it's fun, so it's not like going to the dentist. I have two more hoop connectors so I can make two more hoops.
